A Day in Roatan

“You smell the perfume of the white ginger and watch the palm fronds sway in the southeastern trade winds… slip into quiet, blue water that feels like velvet on the skin… walk along the white sand and scoop up shells, adding to a collection already spilling onto the patio table… Experiences like those — a daily pleasure on Roatan, Honduras — are, really, what enticed us to invest here.

Just this morning, perched on the railing of our open porch, I sipped my tea as horses galloped by with early riders. I swam for a bit, and from the water, I looked back at the island, rising to mountain forests. Nobody else was on our beach at Lawson Rock.

We never imagined we’d be able to afford an island retreat — let alone one right on a secluded beach. But we’re here pretty much full-time these days, enjoying the beautiful, open-air house we had built — and an incredible quality of life — for a fraction of what it would cost us elsewhere in the region. The truth is: We’re living a dream retirement we never even dared dream about before we came here.

Over 4 years in design and now near completion . . Costa Tesoro will be the cornerstone of West Bay Beach. Family home to the “Lynch’s” and maybe you! TJ has just posted a great blog entry on the latest, including Christian recording artist “Moi”, playing a live concert from it’s magnificant deck overlooking West Bay. What a jaw dropping pool, slides and entertainment facility for his kids and family.

Great Pizza in West Bay

In West Bay, there is a great pizza restaurant called Il Pomodore. Their menu features your classic combinations of sausage, pepperoni, canadian bacon, vegetables, etc. They are thin crust style pizzas and are amazing. The menu gets even more exotic when you look at their theme styled pizzas such as “The Roatan” appropriately named.

In Roatan, seafood is fresh and sometimes caught minutes ago. “The Roatan” is a seafood pizza with FRESH clams, fish, shrimp and is AMAZING, the sauce and cheeses they use are fantastic. Along with their wonderful pizza is their spectacular service. Don’t miss Il Pomodore when you are in West Bay. Went Snorkeling for the First Time

In Roatan because of it having the 2nd largest barrier reef in the world, you can exlore the Caribbean Sea like you never thought possible. From 1 ft to 150 feet or more. The sea lures you in . . . you start by simply understanding how to breathe through your air tube and than what is totally remarkable, is boyancy. You float!! So no drowning, just reach out lay on the water and start swimming, moving your hands, or just move your feet. Get use to your large fins and look down into the water.

From there on out as you get more comforable, start exploring the reef, you will see schools and schools of fish, baracuda, breath taking coral, turtles, rays, starfish, parrot fish, crabs, and the list goes on and on.
